Hello,

very nice infos. But I am also trying to enable Linux-Firefox-Access to the WebCam (SparkLan CAS-630W). Reading the manual there seems to be a way to get access via Java by changing from View_ActiveX-Mode to View_JAVA-Mode by the Windows-Software IPView - needs Win88SE or above.

I have only a little rest of Windows98 - no 98SE or above :-( For configuration with IE its ok, but this Web-Confiuration has no JAVA-Enabling-Menu :-((

There should be a way to activate JAVA without installing Win98SE and the IPView - but how???

Hello Matthias,

thank you for analyzing the webcam stream. Is it possible to modify your tool in that manner, that it is possible to load it as an applet from a separate web server into a web browser like firefox? Unfortunately the build-in camera web server only supports the download and execution of an activex component, although some specs says activex AND java are supported. But in my tests I couldn''t find the required xplug.class on the camera, so java seems not to work on the WL 5460.

Best regards,
Andreas

Hi, Mathias,

I have just published information about how to get the WL-5460CAM back to life in case of a foul firmware upgrade (which is all too likely, as the watchdog timer sometimes causes the system to reboot in the middle of a firmware upload). The good thing about that is, that there is a serial port on the cam, which can not only be used to reflash the firmware, but actually is a console into the operating system, so that commands like ps, ls, ifconfig, netstat, ... can all be given into the live system, not just via the backdoor you provided (which was my first entry into the cam):

The complete source code of the CAM is available via GPL license at the Ovislink Website (see my document for the links etc.)

Hi Mathias,
I have a WL 5460 CAM. I wrote to Ovisilink because their new firmware 1.01a that have some little bugs.
If you want i can forward the e-mail to you.
I have tried your MDGrab also and it works but i can't see the video file. It haven't header with the fourcc code.
On win xp mplayer can't display it and say that is wrong.

Many many thanks for you fine program. With it I have enjoyed the possibility to manage camera from an application.

Regards,

Hi Tom,

from where did you get firmware 1.7 ? I didnt find it on the ovislink website.
My webcam does not reboot from time to time, but sometimes it forgets its WPA Key and I had to
reconnect it manually.

The missing java feature is also a very huge drawback.

best regards

Yes, i think too.

I updated the Cellvision CAS670W firmware into Airlive 5460CAM.
From version 1.0 to 1.7.
But the errors in the firmware are the same.
Always you get a reboot of the 5460CAM form time to time.
I think it is not useable at all.

The sceond bad news is that there is no java avaiable.
Although you can read it in the manual.

Do you think so too?

greetings tom
